Nineties Worship Night Docuseries Episode 2: Shout to the Lord, hosted by Chad Gentry, tells the unlikely story behind Darlene Zschech’s “Shout to the Lord.” Through firsthand accounts from Zschech, Don Moen and others who witnessed the movement, the documentary traces how a local church in suburban Sydney — focused not on building a music brand but on “raising worshippers” — developed songs in the life of its congregation before those songs reached churches around the world. The episode explores the song’s origin in a personal moment of frustration and prayer, Integrity Music’s pivotal partnership with Hillsong, and the unexpected decision to place Zschech at the center of a major worship recording at a time when Integrity had never featured a woman as its primary worship leader.
More than a retrospective on a defining era in modern worship, Nineties Worship Night Docuseries Episode 2: Shout to the Lord explores the convictions that shaped the movement — and why they still matter to the Church today. The episode reveals a culture in which worship was formed in the life of the local congregation rather than around celebrity, with Zschech urging producers to capture more of the congregation’s voice and Hillsong’s early leaders describing songs as something refined week after week in the church itself. That same conviction frames Zschech’s message to a new generation of worship leaders: “He’s not looking for an artist. He’s looking for my heart.” She closes with a timely call to write and sing songs that declare who God is and offer a world in need “songs of hope.”
