After nearly 100 days of leukemia treatment, Jacob is home with his family as he begins the next stage of his recovery
Christian singer Jason Gray recently announced on Facebook that his son, Jacob, finally came home after almost 100 days of medical treatment for leukemia.
Last week, Jacob received his final chemotherapy treatment, his final lumbar puncture, and had his Hickman line removed.
“There is still a long road ahead. His new immune system is still extremely vulnerable and will take a long time to fully rebuild. There will be continued monitoring, precautions, and plenty of unknowns,” Jason said.
Jubileecast reported that Jacob was originally diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) in 2019, overcame the disease, and then it returned unexpectedly in late 2025 when he had a lingering black eye (see NRT report here).
The swelling from the black eye grew into a large tumor, and a biopsy showed that Jacob’s leukemia had returned.
The cancer progressed more quickly than expected, and he was admitted to the Fred Hutch Cancer Center in Seattle, where he underwent CAR T-cell therapy, which modifies a patient’s immune cells so they can recognize and attack cancer. He then had a stem-cell transplant on May 29, 2026 which began a 100-day period when his new immune system was vulnerable and he was placed in isolation from the outside world.
On Facebook, Jason credited Jacob’s mom, Taya, for putting her life mostly on hold to stay and care for him.
“I’m deeply grateful for the way she has been there for our son and helped him across this finish line,” Jason said.
Jason also credited his fans for giving more than $70,000 to help with Jacob’s medical expenses.
“You’ve also prayed, sent notes, and continuously asked about him. Your care has meant more than you may ever fully know,” Jason said. “Jacob has received a new blood type, a depth of hard-earned wisdom and experience, two good seeing eyeballs, and his strong, brave, sweet heart.”
While admitting there is more healing ahead for Jacob, Jason said, “We’ve crossed a major threshold, and I just want to say thank you.”
