Most people know what it feels like to be stuck inside their own head. The racing thoughts, the fear of falling short, the exhausting mental noise that makes it hard to breathe. Ashley Hess wrote a song about exactly that.

When Hess released “LOVE LIKE YOU” in July, she offered a song about reaching for hope, about returning to what matters most. “BREATHE” is a companion piece: the darker, more interior look at why she needed that hope so badly in the first place.

Written during a season of significant transition behind the scenes, “BREATHE” is a direct window into what that period felt like from the inside. The anxiety, the self-doubt, the weight of thoughts that won’t quiet down. Hess didn’t write around those feelings. She wrote straight through them.

“This song is pretty much a window into the anxiety, the fears and the insecurities circulating in my mind throughout the whole process,” says Hess. “I find a lot of strength and peace in my relationship with God, and this song is like the intersection of anxiety and God’s presence.”

Together, “LOVE LIKE YOU” and “BREATHE” are beginning to sketch the shape of something larger, an artist stepping fully into her own story, on her own terms. More music and visuals are expected in the coming months as Hess continues her independent rollout.
