In a world full of pop-country crossovers and tiktok trends it’s rare to find a country artist that still pulls at your heartstrings without reducing it to a single viral line, but that’s exactly what Oklahoma’s own Kaitlin Butts does in her new track “Never Really Mine”, out now.
In a message to fans, Kaitlin shared the inspiration behind the track:
“I was at the Two Step Inn Festival in Austin when my husband and I had gone from the front of house to listen to Miranda Lambert. When she was done, we walked backstage on the pathway that goes through the crowd all the way up to backstage.
As we were walking back, a girl in the crowd essentially catcalled my husband as I was holding his hand and it actually made me laugh out loud, because she was right, he is “foiinneeee”. When we got backstage, my friend Fernando asked me if that ever bothered me and I said “a man that can be taken from me was never really mine”. I quickly thought about how much I wish other women felt that way and wish they had that same security as I do with him. He doesn’t have a wandering eye and if there were ever someone that took his attention away I wouldn’t be tugging at him to stay with me, I would want him to go on and get her.
I hope this song becomes like a secure attachment mantra for you:
Someone that can be taken from me was never really mine.
Written with my pals Lola Kirke & Maggie Antone, I’m happy to say “Never Really Mine” is out now!
